Cusco to Machu Picchu - Cheap Machu Picchu Tours from Cusco

Day 1Cusco to Machu Picchu full day tour

We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco. Then in our private transport, we will be driving you through the Sacred Valley of Incas to Poroy train station. Here you will be boarding the train to Machu Picchu. The train ride offers beautiful views of the Peruvian highland farm and villages.

Upon arrival, our representative will be meeting you and will be transferring you to the bus terminal. Here you will be boarding a bus to Machu Picchu citadel. It takes 30 minutes by bus to get to the citadel from Aguas Calientes.

Once at the entrance of the citadel, our representative will be meeting you and will be assisting you in entering the citadel.

Machu Picchu Tour

As you will be walking into the citadel, the clouds would be clearing by as the golden rays of the sun would shimmer on the walls of the citadel.

Our local expert will be giving you a detailed tour of the citadel for two hours. During the trip, you will be visiting some of the important parts of the citadel like the ceremonial centre, temple of the sun, main plaza, house of the priests and more.

After the half day trip to the citadel, you will have some free time to explore the citadel on your own. If you have booked to hike Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, our tour guide will be directing you to the respective trail head.

Alternatively, you can hike to the Sun gate or Intipunku. It offers a beautiful view of Machu Picchu and is the entrance for those on the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu.

After you finish your visit to Machu Picchu, you will be taking a bus back down to Aguas Calientes town. Here we will be stopping for lunch at a local restaurant.

Later in the evening, we will be taking the train back to Poroy. Our representative will be meeting you and will transfer you back to the hotel in Cusco.

Day 2Cusco City Tour

At 0130 PM, we will be picking you up from your hotel to begin the Cusco City Tour. On this half day tour, we will be visiting the Cusco Cathedral, Sun Temple (Coricancha), Sacsayhuaman, Q’enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay.

Cusco Cathedral:

Cusco Cathedral stands right on the main square of Cusco – Plaza de Armas. It was once an Inca Palace. On conquering Cusco, the Spanish rulers demolished the palace and built the cathedral on its remains. It portrays a blend of Inca and Colonial architecture.

Qorikancha:

Qorikancha, also referred to as the temple of Sun, was a supreme site of worship to Incas. The Incas revered Sun (Inti) and this former Inca temple was very important to them. But, like most sites in Cusco, the Spanish rulers demolished the temple and built the church on its remains.

Legends say that the temple was once covered in Gold. When the Spanish rulers abducted the then Inca Emperor, Atahualpa, most of the gold from the temple was paid as a ransom. But the Spanish to the typical colonial way, beheaded him on receiving the ransom.

Sacsayhuaman:

The tour continues with a drive to Sacsayhuaman. It is a notable Inca fortress. Here you will be able to see some of the impressive stonework of Incas.

Each rock here weighs over a ton. It is still a mystery though how the Incas transported these rocks here.

Q’enqo:

We will then visit Q’enqo. This small archaeological site was used by Incas as a place where they made sacrifices and mummified corpses.

Puca Pucara:

The tour continues with a driver further to Puca Pucara. This massive rock was used by Inca militants as a watchtower to safeguard Cusco from any intruders.

Tambomachay:

Finally, we will be visiting Tambomachay. It has a series of aqueducts which were built by Incas and are in use even today. This place served as a spa to the political elite.

After the tour, we will be driving you back to the centre of Cusco City.
