Rainbow Mountain Day Tour from Cusco

Rainbow Mountain Day Tour from Cusco is one of the most popular full day trips. Infact, it tops the bucket list of many travellers in Peru, just after Machu Picchu. The full day Apu Vinicunca Peru Tour takes you through the Peruvian wilderness where you will get to immerse in the sight of beautiful landscapes of the Peruvian Andes.

Locally known as Montana de Siete colores, people did not know of the existence of Rainbow Mountain Cusco until early 2016. It was when the dense snow started to melt, the colors gradually started to appear.

It soon got all the deserving attention and became one of the popular tourist attractions in Peru. Around 1500 people visit the mountain in a day.

Rainbow Mountain Trek takes you closer to the Sacred Andean Mountain, Apu Ausangate. It is one of the tallest mountains in Peru and dominates the Southern Skyline of Cusco on a clear day.

Rainbow Mountains are a part of the Vilcanota mountain range.

The highest point of the trek is at 5200 metres above sea level. Although all our tour guides are experienced mountaineers and have training on first aid. We highly recommend you to spend 3-4 days in Cusco before the tour to avoid altitude sickness.

If you are not willing to hike, you can also rent a horse from the starting point of the trek.

From the summit, you will get a closer view of the Sacred Ausangate mountain that towers to 6400 metres above sea level. If desired, you can hike further to the Red Valley.

After enjoying the beauty of this marvel, we will start descending to the car park. It will roughly be a 45 minutes hike down the hill.

It was a fantastic experience hiking the Rainbow Mountain with Antonio from Machu Picchu Kingdom. We did this tour after our Sacred Valley and Inca Trail trek, so we had no issues with altitude. We can totally rate the tour as a must visit in Peru.
