Breakfast at the hotel; Markets and Ruins Cusco Tour is a great introduction to the Inca cultures and the Spanish colonial history of Cusco. We will pick you up from your hotel at 9:00 am from where we will go further to Pedro Mercado San. In the company of your English-speaking guide, you will learn about the history of the market as you explore rows of local produce, colorful fabrics, flower vendors, and shaman stalls. The inhabitants of Cusco are not avoided, so get ready for some cozy local interaction, but entertaining.
From the bustling San Pedro market, you will be taken to the nearby serene Inca ruins. You will have the opportunity to visit the impressive fortress of Sacsayhuaman. This houses the fortress walls up to 400 meters long made of stones weighing 128 – 200 tons. Your tour will continue to take you to other Inca ruins including Q’enqo, an important Inca ceremonial and ritual plant, and Puca Pucara, a military construction once part of the defense system of the Inca Empire. Your last stop will be at Tambomachay, also known as the “Inca Bath” in Spanish. It consists of a series of aqueducts, canals, and waterfalls that run through terraced rocks.

The Sacred Valley city of Pisaq was once a noble Inca citadel. These days, it attracts shoppers rather than warriors, with its popular Sunday morning craft market. After touring the Inca site of Pisaq, set spectacularly on a mountain to spur the hour-long hike above the village, get ready to haggle and barter at the market.
Finger puppets, panpipes, knitted ponchos, rugs, shawls, hats, jewelry, ceramics – you name it, you will find it. Villagers from all over the Sacred Valley come here to barter and sell the produce, so the market has a lively everyday feel to it, rather than being tourist-oriented.
The main market is on Sunday. Sunday is also a good time to see people wearing colorful traditional costumes, as mass is held by the mayor of the city holding his personal silver office. The buzz really hits the market after the mass is over, around 11am. In the afternoon return to Cusco

Pick up from the hotel at 6:00 am and drive to Km 82 from the head of the Inca Trail. We begin our trek by crossing the bridge over the Urubamba River and walking along its left bank as it flows northwest. Following the trail along flat terrain, we reach Miskay (2800m / 9184 feet) to then ascend and finally see, from the highest part of a viewpoint, the impressive Inca city of Llactapata (2650m / 8692 feet). We continue trekking through the valley created by the Kusichaca River, gradually climbing for about five hours until we reach the community of Wayllabamba, our first camp.

It’s market day in Lausanne! Enjoy browsing and packing a picnic lunch for our 11 a.m. boat cruise on Lake Geneva. A few miles dBreakfast; We begin the most difficult part of the hike, which consists of a precipitous ascent and which extends for 9 km along this ascent. On the first Warmihuañusca pass (Dead Woman’s 4200 m / 13776 ft) we can see domestic llamas and alpacas that graze on the ichu, one of the few plants that grows to great height. Walking down and crossing an area of the so-called cloud forest, which is the habitat of many different types of birds such as hummingbirds and sparrows and the Andean bear. We advise that on this special day, your backpack is well stocked with sweets, chocolates and coca leaves that will keep your sugar level high, and help with altitude sickness. We descend to Pacaymayo (3600m / 11808 feet), where we will camp.

On our way back we’ll take time to peek into the vineyards surrounding Lutry before returning to Lausanne. Boat: 2 hrs. Bus: 1 hr. Walking: moderate.

Breakfast; We ascend again, passing the Inca site of Runkuracay (3970m / 13022 feet). Upon reaching the second pass, the landscape opens onto new spectacular views towards the snow-capped peaks of the Pumasillo mountain range. Then we will descend towards Yanacocha and enter the cloud forest to finally reach Sayacmarca. This is a beautiful complex made up of a semicircular construction, enclosures on different levels, narrow streets, liturgical fountains, patios and irrigation canals. Continuing for an easy climb to the third pass Phuyupatamarca, we will continue our hike up the long descending stone stairs that lead us to Wiñaywayna (2650m / 8692 feet) where we will spend our last camping trip.

Breakfast; We woke up at 4:00 am an hour later and went up to the Inti Punku (Puerta del Sol) of this fabulous place, we can see the sunrise over the sacred citadel of Machu Picchu (2400m / 7872 feet). From here we descend towards Machu Picchu, 40 minutes later we enter the citadel from the highest point through the “House of the Guardians”. Next, descend to the control point where we will register and leave our backpacks.
Upon arrival, you will participate in a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Plaza, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock (the most important preserved Intihuatana), the royal rooms, the Temple of the Three Windows, houses, warehouses, a large central square; and all connected by narrow roads and passes that are surrounded by terraces carved into the mountainside. After the tour you will have time to wander around the archaeological site at your leisure.
Then, you will have time to do any of the following solo activities:
1. Climb Wayna Picchu; For the more adventurous, we suggest you climb the Wayna Picchu from where you can appreciate the immensity of Machu Picchu, being even more surprisingly high and distant.
